I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

Many appliances and fixtures have taps that you can turn off. For example, the toilet will have a valve below or beside the cistern. If you cannot locate a valve, or that does not stop the leak, then turn off the mains water shutoff tap to cut off all the water to your home.

Once that’s done, give us a call, no matter what the day or time is. We will be with you promptly to get things sorted.

While you wait for our emergency plumber, remove any significant things, clean up any water, and put a bucket to catch any drips. You should also switch off the hot water heating if the main water is turned off.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!

You may have been shown it as a stopcock, isolating valve or toby. This valve is normally located on the boundary near the road, usually under a blue or black plastic cover.
