I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If there is water still leaking, turn off the isolating valve to the appliance or fixture if possible, or go immediately to the main water shutoff valve for your home. If you’re unable to find a water valve to turn off, then you can try turning on all the cold taps inside and outside your home to depressurise the pipework and reduce the leak.

Now give our on call plumbers a ring, any hour day or night. We’ll be at your place as soon as possible to resolve the problem.

While waiting for the plumber to arrive, remove any important things close to the leak, and clean up any water or place a container to catch any drips. If you have turned the mains water off, also switch off the heating for the hot water as well.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!
